FAQ

How are you affording to travel for so long?

We both worked full time for about 4 years after graduating University. Because of COVID-19 we were both working full time but stuck at home and unable to travel for a year and a half so we saved up a lot of money. We also sold our cars and a lot of our belongings before we left. Many people our age (26 & 27) at home were buying houses, but we weren’t ready to settle down so we decided to use our savings for a big trip instead. A good financial decision? Probably not… but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

How much did you save for the trip?

We saved just over $36,000 AUD each for the trip bringing our total to around $73,000 AUD. We also both have $5,000 AUD in emergency funds/money for living until we get a job when we return home.

Are you working while you travel?

No we’re not (yet) but we are going to be doing about 1 month of World Packers Volunteering to help make our money last a bit longer.

How do you plan your travel?

In Europe we booked about 1 – 2 months in advance since it was peak summer season and stuff was booking out.

In Central America we’re booking 1 week in advance which gives us a lot more flexibility.

We do book major flights in advance, for example, we’ve booked our flights from Mexico to Asia about 4 months out so that it’s a cheaper price.
